
The Minister of Homeland Security, Honourable Peter Mukhito, has reaffirmed government’s support for the financial empowerment of police officers through Malawi Police SACCO during his official visit to the National Police Headquarters at Area 30 in Lilongwe.
The Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Homeland Security (Operations), Honourable Norman Paulosi Chisale, MP, and other senior officials from the Ministry. He was received by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Richard Chakupaleza Chikoko Luhanga, and his Deputies.
During the engagement, Honourable Mukhito highlighted Malawi Police SACCO as a key partner in improving the socio-economic wellbeing of police officers through savings mobilisation and access to affordable financial services.
In a strong demonstration of confidence in the SACCO, the Minister made a generous donation of K10 million to Malawi Police SACCO, commending the institution for its role in promoting financial discipline, economic resilience, and long-term empowerment among police officers and other civil servants.
Inspector General of Police, Mr Richard Chakupaleza Chikoko Luhanga, welcomed the gesture and described the Minister’s support as a significant boost to the SACCO’s mission of improving the lives of its members.
Reacting to the donation, the Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Police SACCO, Mr Ian Mwalungila, expressed profound gratitude to the Minister, describing the contribution as a milestone for the institution.
“The donation is a clear vote of confidence in Malawi Police SACCO and our mission to empower members financially. It will strengthen our capacity to expand services, enhance member benefits, and deepen financial inclusion among police officers and other civil servants,” said Mr Mwalungila.
The visit marked a memorable moment for Malawi Police SACCO, reinforcing collaboration between government leadership, the Malawi Police Service, and the SACCO in advancing both operational excellence and financial empowerment.
